RESUMEN
Las cartas de una enferma fallecida en Santa Cruz, Bolivia, después de varios años de tratamiento por una tuberculosis multirresistente (MDR-TB), recibidas por el autor, le inducen a comentar varios de los temas por ella mencionados (historia familiar, condiciones sociales, hemoptisis, transfusiones, virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH), cirugía, reacciones adversas, anemia, pérdida de peso, relación con el sistema sanitario y corrupción) relevantes para el control de esta infección y enfermedad. El autor concluye que la tuberculosis no se eliminará en un futuro próximo.
ABSTRACT
The letters of a patient who died with multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in Santa Cruz, Bolivia written to her physician induces him to discuss several aspects mentioned by her (family history, social conditions, hemoptysis, transfusions, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), surgery, adverse reactions, anemia, weight lost, relation with the health system and corruption) relevant for the control of this infection and disease. The author concludes that tuberculosis will not be eliminated in the near future.
